Long Term, Narrative, Los Angeles, California
Fact:
African-Americans make up 13% of the US population but account for nearly 50% of new HIV cases in the US.
Synopsis:
Supported by a grant from Gilead Sciences, Inc. and in partnership with Cornerstone Theater Company, The Narra Group produced two short films about HIV/AIDS in the African-American community. In particular, Long Term and Head Trip address cultural attitudes regarding regular doctor visits and taking medication that exist among African-Americans infected with HIV/AIDS. Both films seek to dispel cultural myths and increase the active role that African-Americans take in their health and well-being.
